Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening, or bleaching, is a procedure used to lighten the color of your teeth by a few shades, resulting in a brighter, cleaner, and more radiant smile. To ensure the safety of your teeth and gums, it should always be performed under the supervision of a dentist.
How Is Teeth Whitening Done?
There are several teeth whitening methods available, but the most appropriate one for you can be determined by your dentist. Generally, there are two main application methods: in-office and at-home bleaching systems. At our clinic, we typically start by removing dental calculus and stains with dental cleaning and polishing. Then, your tooth color is assessed, photographed, and recorded. To protect the cheeks and tongue from any harm, special retractors are used, and a gum-protective gel is applied. For individuals without tooth sensitivity, in-office teeth whitening using light-activated bleaching agents is performed. Simultaneously, impressions are taken for custom-made transparent trays that you can use at home. For those with tooth sensitivity, non-light-activated agents are usually employed for teeth whitening. Typically, the in-office procedure is carried out twice in one session, and when the desired tooth color is achieved, the treatment is concluded. Why Do Teeth Become Discolored?
The most common reasons for tooth discoloration include aging, smoking, and the consumption of colored beverages and foods such as tea, coffee, and red wine. If you're not satisfied with the color of your teeth after calculus removal and polishing procedures, teeth whitening can be a conservative approach to address the issue. How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?
With routine check-ups and good oral hygiene, the effects of teeth whitening can last approximately 1.5 to 2 years. Is Teeth Whitening Harmful?
When administered under the supervision of a dentist, teeth whitening does not harm tooth tissues. However, the uncontrolled use of inappropriate products available in the market can cause irreversible damage to both tooth enamel and gum tissues. Is Teeth Whitening Painful?
Teeth whitening is a painless procedure. Some patients may experience mild sensitivity during the procedure and in the first 24 hours afterward.
